Minutes

Minutes of the meeting held on 18th October 2016 were agreed by all and signed by the Chair, John Williams.

Matters arising

  • Because of Jon’s absence, discussion of several matters was postponed until the next meeting as he had initiated their discussion. These were the website, history of the Hopton Castle Parish Meeting, and general powers and duties of a Parish Meeting.
  • Veronica recalled that the last notice board had been made by Arthur in the village for ~ £200. Veronica will ask Ted Laidlar his price for a new and larger notice board.
  • Although Jon is sourcing details on acquiring a defibrillator and the necessary training, ideas for funding for the device have been put forward by the Church Meeting group. Dennis Wright will organise another music evening (date to be confirmed). Sue Williams asked for a date to be agreed asap as a church fundraising event (male voice choir) must be scheduled in June. Details are also needed for an advertisement of the event in the Parish Magazine.
  • Shrewsbury and Telford NHS. There has still been no decision on the closing of an A & E department at one of the hospitals. Veronica suggested writing a letter from the Parish Meeting to MP Phillip Dunne prior to the decision being made. Veronica offered to write the letter stating opposition to any closures.

Correspondence

  • 2017/18 Council Tax Precept Requirement. It was agreed that no precept was required and that any minor costs would be supported by fundraising activities or donations. Jane Stirling will send the form (albeit a month late) to Shropshire Council.

AOB

  • Drains have been repaired and some road tarmac replaced at the top end of the village.
  • There is still no update on the 3-phase project. John Williams will chase Bob Megitt prior to the

Next meeting and AGM

  • May 2nd Jane to check availability and book Bedstone Village Hall.
